The Victorian Agriculture Minister, Peter Walsh, has issued a formal apology to an environment group.
Environment East Gippsland successfully challenged the State Government’s forestry laws in the Supreme Court in 2010.
The group has twice settled out of court in its favour, securing greater protection for threatened flora and fauna.
On Wednesday, Mr Walsh posted a retraction on his electoral website apologising for comments he made last year when he accused the group of wasting taxpayers money.
The ABC understands Environment East Gippsland sued the minister for defamation.
Mr Walsh says he is restricted in what he can say.
“There’s some confidentiality clauses around this particular issue and i’m not at liberty to comment,” he said.
The environment group says it is happy with the apology but is unable to comment further.
