Tell Canberra that Australian Paper is Bloody UnAustralian

Monday, May 16, 2016

Until mid-2015 the Commonwealth of Australia had a progressive policy to ensure all of the paper it sourced was 100% post-consumer recycled. So no native forests would be chopped down to supply paper to the Fed Govt in Canberra.
Tony Abbott and Barnaby Joyce put an end to that and now the blood-stained Reflex paper can be used. Australian Paper which makes Reflex sources its woodchip pulp from VicForests. It clearfells and burns the tall wet forest from the Central Highlands. This is where the critically endangered Leadbeater's Possum lives.
Now, Senator Nick Xenophon, on May 1, put forward a motion that all electoral voting papers be produced on paper made from these rich forests.

RFA’s – just a giant legal loophole to destroy forests

Friday, May 13, 2016

700 pages and not one reason to keep logging forestsEast Gippsland was the first region to have its forests signed away under the appalling logging industry ‘free-for-all’ called the Regional Forest Agreements (RFAs). Its life of 20 years is about to expire next year and MUST NOT be rolled over for another 2 decades of legally exempt pillaging. Many reports have shown it was a massive failure for all but the export woodchip industry.

The good guys gazump the bad this time!

Friday, April 29, 2016

The Bad news is that VicForests continues to clearfell in ecologically valuable forests which have barely had an adequate survey or none at all. This means VicForests continue, as always, to destroy rare wildlife, rainforest, giant trees and critical habitat.

The Good news is that the surveyors from GECO again found a massive breach of the law by VicForests and managed to halt the logging. VicForests had sent their logging crew into a stand of old growth forest near Bendoc on the Errinundra Plateau, habitat of the protected Greater Gliders. A very high density of 11 gliders along just 850m of forest were detected during a random spotlighting session on 28th April 2016 in an area that was being logged. This high density population was not picked up by VicForests - but should have been.

Brickworks political donation interests extend to native forest burning and logging

Wednesday, April 20, 2016

Brickworks owns the largest mill in East Gippsland. It is a dodgy company which makes large political donations and has huge influence over the Liberal Party. It was mentioned in the NSW ICAC inquiry into corruption. It played a big part in pushing to have the logging and incineration of native forest logs in electricity generators to be defined as 'renewable' and therefore collect subsidies or credits for doing so.

Reject desperate push for government RET subsidies to burn native forests for industrial heat

Tuesday, April 19, 2016

The Australian Forest products Association (AFPA) launched a push in mid-April to include heat for industrial uses by burning large volumes of native forests, as part of the government’s Renewable Energy Target (RET). At the moment the RET caters solely for electricity generation, which is bad enough!

The logging industry is lobbying hard for this to allow itself to continue forest destruction and the easy profits it makes from taking public property.

Victoria the promised (mining) land

Sunday, April 17, 2016

Mining in Australia is a rogue industry that feels it can ride roughshod over the people of regional Australia. The Australian mining industry has sold out their own nation, they have picked clean the easy to get mineral deposits, they have destroyed communities and environment and have pilfered away and sent offshore the wealth of all Australians.
