130 timber jobs axed in plantation sector

Carter Holt Harvey, a plantation wood processing company in South Australia’s southeast told its workers it will will axe another 130 jobs, after last year cutting 90 jobs at the plywood plant. If this is happening in the plantation processing sector, which supplies 80% of all building products in Australia, the native forest sector must also be feeling the pinch.

Add to this, the demise of ther export woodchip market and no wonder there’s such a push to develop wood-fired power plants in areas like East Gippsland and Eden.

If the forests can’t be logged and woodchipped, let’s incinerate them in furnaces? How positively 15th century.
